4 held over bid to kill ex-BCL leader Shamim

A team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested four persons on the charge of attempt to kill AKM Enamul Haq Shamim, former Central President of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL).
The arrested persons have been identified as Monir, Jewel, Mehedi and Harun, said ATM Habibur Rahman, Director of the Legal and Media Wing of RAB.
RAB picked up them in separate drives in the capital and different other parts of the country between Monday night and Tuesday morning, he said.
Of them, Mehedi and Harun might have opened the firing targeting Shamim when his car reached in
front of Ibn Sina Diagnostic and Imaging Centre in Dhanmondi, said the RAB official.
Shamim, also a member of Executive Committee of ruling Awami League (AL), was shot by unidentified gunmen in the city’s Dhanmondi area on June 19, he said
Two bullets broke through the glass of the vehicle and hit Shamim in his hand but he survived, the RAB official further said.
Shamim is the founder and President of Board of Trustees of Stamford University and Vice-Chairman of Port City International University in Chittagong.
Hailing from Shariatpur, Shamim was Vice-President of JU Central Students’ Union from 1989 to 1991.
