4 ‘drug’ traders killed in Teknaf shootouts

Four suspected drug peddlers have been killed in separate incidents of gunfight in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar.
The incidents took place in Hnila Union’s Leda Churikhal area and Howaikang Union’s Tulatuli area early Saturday.
The identities of the deceased could not be known till filing the report around 9:00pm.
Teknaf BGB-2 Commander Lt Col Mohammad Faysal Hasan Khan said, “On secret information, a large consignment of Yaba tablets was entering the country through Teknaf border, a team of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) took position in the Naf River. At one stage, the team challenged a boat carrying four to five suspected drug smugglers.
Sensing presence of the BGB members, the gang opened fire on them forcing the team to fire back that triggered a gun-battle.
Later, the BGB men rescued three bullet-injured persons from the scene and took them to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctors declared the trio dead.
Around 1,80,000 Yaba pills, two guns, cartridges and a machete were recovered from the spot.
Meanwhile, in Howaikang Union, a yaba dealer was killed in a gunfight with a team of Teknaf Police Station at Tulatuli.
The deceased has been identified as Musa Akbar, 36, said Cox’s Bazar Superintendent of Police (SP) ABM Masud Hossain.
Masud Hossain said that three police members sustained injuries and a case would be filed with Teknaf Police Station.
