Four Bangladeshi workers have been killed and four others injured in a road accident in Yiti of Oman.
The accident took on Sunday afternoon when a JCB machine in which bucket they were travelling toppled over as it was being driven by an inexperienced driver, reported the Times of Oman on Monday.
Three of the seven workers who fell down accidentally while travelling on the JCB bucket to their worksite were crushed to death on the spot while another succumbed to his injuries at a hospital in Muscat on Monday.
“Four others in that JCB bucket who suffered injuries were rushed to the hospital,” a source in Yiti said.
All the victims were identified as Bangladeshi workers employed at a landscape project in Jebel Sifah.
“A firsthand information from an unofficial source suggested that the Bangladeshis died when the JCB machine toppled. Three people died on the spot, while another yesterday morning,” said a senior official from the Bangladesh Embassy in Muscat.
Efforts are on by the mission office to confirm their identities, including their addresses in Bangladesh, repatriate the remains and seek compensation, he said. According to sources in Yiti, workers travelling in JCB buckets and risking their lives is a common sight.
