3 HMDSTU students among 5 drowned

At least five persons, including three of university students, were drowned in two separate districts on Saturday.
In Dinajpur, at least three students drowned and two others were also injured after a boat capsized while they went to National Park Ashura Beel for excursion in Nawabganj upazila of the district on Saturday afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Asfaque Dipto and Rafit Rahat, both were the students of Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science & Technology
University, while the female student named Fariha Moy belonged to Dinajpur Govt Mohila College.
Local sources said that four students of Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science & Technology University and a female student of Dinajpur Govt. Women’s College went to Nawabganj National Park Ashura Beel. They boarded on a boat which capsized suddenly in the middle of the beel. All of them onboard drowned, because they didn’t know how to swim. Locals and tourists rescued them and took them to Nawabganj Upazila Health Complex, but doctors declared three of them dead including the female student.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nawabganj Police Station Subrat Kumar Sarkar confirmed the news to the media.
Meanwhile, two siblings were drowned while they were playing on the bank of a river at Kandapouli in Manikganj municipality. The incident occurred on Saturday.
The victims were identified as Masum, 5, son of one Abdur Rahman, from Kandapouli area, and Abu Bakar, 3, son of Aminul Islam Biltu. They were cousins.
Abdur Razzak, Councilor of Ward No-7 of Manikganj Municipality, confirmed the incident to media.
