A member of the banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) reportedly confessed before a court here on Monday to his involvement in killing Rajshahi University teacher Prof Rezaul Karim Siddiquee.
Metropolitan Magistrate Khalid Hasan Khan recorded the statement of JMB man Maskawat Hasan alias Sakib alias Abdullah, haling from Shibganj of Bogra district, under Section 164.
Maskawat confessed before the court that he was directly involved in the killing, court inspector
Abul Hasan told UNB. Police, however, did not disclose the details of the alleged JMB man’ s arrest.
Court sources said a team of plainclothes police produced Maskawat before the court at noon amid tight security.
Prof Rezaul Karim, 58, of the RU English Department, was killed by miscreants in the city’s Shalbagan area on April 23.
