Three persons, including a mother and her daughter, were drowned when an overloaded boat capsized in Meghna River near Bipin Shah Ghat in Narsingdi Sadar upazila on Saturday afternoon.
At least 10 other passengers were also injured in the incident.
The dead were identified as Sufia Begum, 52, Morsheda Begum, 40, and her sever-year-old daughter Shubarna.
Abul Kashem, Officer-in-Charge of Narsingdi Sadar Police Station told The New Nation, “At least 40 people boarded the boat at Bibin Shaha Ghat at 2:45pm. The boat was going to Chordigoldi.”
Besides the passengers, the boat was also carrying a huge quantity of logs, witnesses said.
At least 10 other people were injured in the accident. They were admitted to the Narsinghdi Sadar Hospital. Police said the boatman fled the spot after the accident.
