3-day int’l tourism fair begins in city today

A three-day international tourism fair dubbed “US-BANGLA Airlines Dhaka Travel Mart 2017” will begin from March 30 to explore country’s potentiality in tourism sector.
Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon will inaugurate the fair at Ball Room of Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel as the chief gust.
Travel and tourism publication, Bangladesh Monitor, is organizing the fair for the fourteenth time. Private carrier US-Bangla Airlines is supporting the event as title sponsor while national carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines is the airline partner of the fair.
“With a view to unlocking the country’s tourism potential, we have launched this event sixteen years back and since then we are holding this fair as a regular annual event,” said Bangladesh Monitor Editor Kazi Wahidul Alam while announcing details of the fair at a press conference in a city hotel today.
Mentioning that Dhaka Travel Mart has been playing a very supportive role in the development of country’s tourism sector, he said: “For a sustainable tourism sector we need to attract more foreign tourists.”
“We need to identify the appropriate tourism product and promote worldwide, especially in those countries, from where we may expect tourists. We need to plan effective ways of promotion as well. At the same time, communication and other infrastructure skilled human resources need to be developed,” he added.
Bangladesh Tourism Board CEO Dr. M Nasir Uddin, Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation Chairman Aparup Chowdhury, US-BANGLA Airlines CEO Imran Asif and DGM (Sales) of Biman Bangladesh Airline M Abu Taher also spoke on the occasion.
About 50 organizations from different countries and hosts Bangladesh are taking part in the US-Bangla Airlines Dhaka Travel Mart 2017, which includes National Tourism Organizations (NTOs), Airlines, Tour Operators, Hotels, Resorts, online booking portals and Healthcare service providers, among others.
Participating organizations during the 3-day fair will offer special discounts on airfares and other tourism products and services. Attractive tour packages for domestic and foreign destinations will be available for the visitors.
On the sidelines of the fair, a seminar on “Emergence of Halal Tourism- How Bangladesh Can Benefit” will be held on Saturday (April 1). International experts on this subject will be present in the seminar as guest speakers.
Visitors will be able to go around the fair from 10 am to 8 pm from Thursday to Saturday paying an entry fee of Taka 30.
Raffle draw on the entry coupons will be held on the concluding day at 7.30 pm at the fair venue in front of visitors. Prizes will include airline tickets to various destinations at home and abroad, exciting tour packages, star hotel accommodation, lunch/dinner coupons and others.
