3 BGB, 2 army men killed in Tangail cantonment blast

Three members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and two members of Bangladesh Army were killed and 11 others injured in a mortar shell blast during training at Ghatail Cantonment here on Wednesday. The deceased army men were identified as senior warrant officer Parvez of 20 East Bengal and senior warrant officer Manzur of 4 East Bengal while the BGB members as Lance Naik Mohammad Ali, Sepoy Abu Sufiyan and Sepoy Ekram of 3 BGB battalion. Fazlul Kabir, officer-in-charge of Ghatail Police Station, said the mortar shell went off at Ghatail field firing range around 12 noon during a training of BGB members under the supervision of army, leaving the five dead on the spot and 11 others injured. The injured included an army person and 10 BGB members. The deceased army men were in charge of maintaining the firing range, said an Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) release. Seven of the injured were airlifted to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka as their condition was stated to be critical. – Tangail, UNB
