Our Correspondent :
Three men were arrested on Saturday on charge of killing an Assistant Sub-inspector (ASI), Kazi Md Salauddin, of port city’s Chandgaon Police Station, who died after being run over by a microbus carrying alcohol at Chandgaon area on June 11.
A drug peddler, who smuggled homemade alcohol from Rangamati to Chattogram, told his driver to run over the police officer if they tried to stop their vehicle on the way, reports

our correspondent quoting police officials after they arrested three persons of a gang over killing the policeman.
The arrestees are Uttam Biswas alias Belal (34), Md Rashed alias Rasel (26), and Shamsul Alam (60). Among them, Belal was driving the microbus which ran over ASI Salauddin.
“After killing ASI Salauddin, the trio went into hiding and tried to go to Cox’s Bazar from Chattogram. But police arrested them from Maijjartek area under Karnaphuli Police Station after a frantic search,” said Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) (North) Abu Bakar Siddique.
The ADC said the trio had been bringing alcohol from Rangamati and then supplying to sellers in Boalkhali for a long time.
Inspector (Investigation) Rajesh Barua told The Daily Star, “On June 11, Md Jahangir, alcohol trader and owner the vehicle, was in the microbus from Rangamati. He saw ASI Salauddin positioned at the police check post. Later, Jahangir told Belal and the two others not to stop at the police check post and told his driver to run over the policeman if they signalled their vehicle.”
“Belal and his men got prepared and they slowed down the microbus when ASI Salauddin signalled them. As Salauddin stood in front of the microbus and asked the driver to come out, they ran the microbus over two policemen as per the direction to avoid arrest,” said Inspector Rajesh.
“We are trying to arrest Jahangir,” said Inspector Rajesh.
Belal confessed his crime and gave confessional statement before the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Shafi Uddin, said court sources. The same court granted two-day remand of the trio in a narcotics case.
ASI Salauddin was killed and a constable was injured that night. The constable is now undergoing treatment at the hospital. Police filed two cases in this connection.
