28, 000 students deprived of residential facilities at RU

Around 28 thousand students of Rajshahi University (RU) are being deprived of residential facilities in the dormitory.
New dormitories are not being building up while new departments are being opened in the university every year. On the other hand, residential students are facing many problems in the existing dormitories yet.
University Sources, there around 37,248 students enrolled in the university. As many as 8,825 students-5,190 males and 3,609 females reside in 17 different dormitories while 26 students at Meer Abdul Kaiyum International Dormitory.
Inspecting the data, around 24 percent students are getting residential facilities while 76 percent students are being deprived of the facilities that 28 thousand in number.
Some students alleged, there is no development in the dormitory, unhygienic goods are being provided, WIFI network is very poor, shortage of seats in the reading room and so on.
Earlier on 15 April, Several students of Latif Hall of RU vandalised different some washing basins and other furniture and locked the main gate of the hall, demanding reshuffle of hall management as they found fly in the meal during lunch. But no initiative has been taken by the authorities of the university yet.
Besides, university authorities could not give clear information about 2 proposed dormitory inspite of getting the budget, when the construction work will be started.
RU Pro-VC Prof Dr. Ananda Kumar Saha said, “We have a plan of constructing two new dormitories considering the residential facilities of the university this year. One is 10 storey building for female students named ‘Sheikh Hasina Hall’ and another one is for male students named ‘AHM Kamruzzaman hall’ “
“We will demand for further dormitory to the government after implementing this one”, he added.
