The 27th National Basketball Championship-2016 began at district gymnasium and divisional women sports complex venues in the city on Saturday. In the opening matches, Dhaka and Chittagong teams were facing against each other at divisional women sports complex while Khulna and Jessore teams at district gymnasium at 8.30 am. A total of 16 teams including Bangladesh Army, Navy, Air force, BGB, Police, BKSP and host Rajshahi are taking part in the tournament being organized by Bangladesh Basketball Federation (BBF).
Earlier, an inaugural meeting was organized at gymnasium building. Commissioner of Rajshahi division Abdul Hannan and acting Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Sarder Tamij Uddin attended and addressed the session as the chief and special guests respectively with Deputy Commissioner Kazi Ashraf Uddin in the chair.
BBF Joint secretary Khairul Alam and Member Secretary Mominul Alam also spoke.
They inaugurated the championship before a large number of basketball players and fans.
Of the participating teams, nine ones will take part in the first round dividing into three groups while 10 teams including three top ranking teams form the first round will play in the second round dividing into two groups in round robin league basis, said BBF Joint secretary Khairul Alam.
