Chittagong District Police arrested 237 people including 16 leaders and activists of
Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) conducting special drives at different upazilas of the district on Sunday night.
The law enforcers also recovered 74 pieces of contraband Yaba tablets, 22 litres of liquor 250 grams ganjas during the night-long drives.
Mohammad Naimul Hasan, Additional Superintendent of Police (Special Branch) of Chittagong district police said that several teams of police conducted the drives in different upazilas of the district on Sunday night and rounded up 237 people.
The arrested include 10 Jamaat men, six ICS activists and 121 accused on different offenses cases, the additional SP added.
2 Shibir leaders arrested: Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) in a drive arrested two top leaders of Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) from city’s Bakalia area on early Monday.
The arrested were identified as Ismail Hossain, 30, and Saadur Rashid, 29.
A team of Bakalia Police, on secret information, arrested them from a rented house at Rasulbug Residential under city’s Bakalia thana, said Mohammad Mohsin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bakalia Police Station.
