21 more killed in road accidents

At least 21 people, including three women and two children, were killed and 67 others injured in Chattogram, Madaripur and Jashore on Thursday.
In Chattogram, at least nine people, including two women and a child, were killed and three others injured when a bus struck a microbus at Chunati Jaillartek in Lohagara upazila on the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar highway early on the day.
Eight of the deceased were identified as Abu Taher, 22, from Chuti Khalifa Para of Lohagara upazila, Taslima Akter, 20, from Cox’s Bazar district,
Taslima’s daughter Sadia, 2, Taslima’s mother Mamtaz Begum, 45, Nurul Huda, 25, from Chakaria, Hazera Begum, 26, from Borohatia Laskarpara, Sayem, 22, from Banshkhali upazila and Afzal Hossain Sohel, 30, from Lohagara upazila.
Anwarul Haque, in-charge of Chunati Police camp said, “The accident took place around 1:15 am when the Cox’s Bazar-bound ‘Relax Paribahan’ from Chattogram thrust the microbus coming from the opposite direction, leaving eight people killed on the spot and four others injured.”
When the injured were taken to Lohagara Upazila Health Complex, the doctors declared one of them dead.
In Madaripur, seven passengers were killed and 45 others injured, when a bus plunged into a ditch on the Dhaka-Barisal highway in Kolabari area of Madaripur Sadar upazila around 11:45am on the day.
The deceased were identified as Noyon, 27; Abbas Khan, 32; Hasia Begum, 55; Hasan, 14; Habi Hawladar,50; Sayem, 25 and Akkas, 40. All of them were from different upazilas of Madaripur.
The injured were admitted to Madaripur sadar hospital and Faridpur Medical College and Hospital. The death toll might rise as some of the injured are in critical condition.
Sources said, the bus was heading to Madaripur from an Islamic program held in nearby area. The bus plunged in to the ditch when the driver lost control over the steering while trying to avoid collision with a truck in Kalabari.
In Jashore, our Jashore Correspondent reported that at least four persons were killed and 19 others wounded in two separate road crashes at Chaulia on the Jashore Khulna Highway and Jashore – Benapole Highway at around 11am on the day.
The deceased were identified as Subrata Bairagi,25, son of Subhash Bairagi from Gabukhali village under Monirampur upazila, Aleq Sarder,55, from Narendrapur village under Jashore sadar upazila, the others were an unidentified woman aged around 32 and a male of the same age.
Samir Kumar Sarker, officer in-charge, (investigation), Kotwali police station said.
