200 shanties, 20 shops gutted in Mirpur: 10 hurt

At least 200 shanties and 20 shops were gutted in a devastating fire at Mirpur-2 of the capital on Tuesday afternoon.
According to the fire service control room, firefighters rushed to the spot after being informed.
Fire service Director (Operations) Major Mohammad Mahbub told The New Nation at 2pm that twelve-firefighting units work hard to douse blaze that broke out at the Janata Housing City Colony slum. At least 10 people sustained minor injuries during the incident. The fire being extinguished and there is no possibility of it spreading further, he said. Reason behind the fire could not be known immediately.
Mirpur Police Station’s Sub-Inspector Afzal Hossain said that locals joined Fire-Servic to douse the flames. He, however, said that the work dousing was hampered due to the large crowd gathering at the spot.
