Staff Correspondent :Two members of Border Guard Bangladesh [BGB] were killed and four others received critical injuries in a grenade explosion during a combat training session in Khagrachhari Cantonment in the southeastern part of the country on Sunday.The victims were identified as Nayek Subedar Abul Kashem, 46, and Sepoy Mohammad Hasan, 34, of BGB battalion-16 of Guimara Sector.The injured BGB men were Nayek Subedar Masud Rana, Lance Nayek Masirul Islam, Lance Nayek Siraj and Medical Officer Captain Taiful Islam of BGB 40-Battalion, our Khagrachhari Correspondent said.”It was a grenade firing training session. The accident took place at about 11:00am. Of the injured, there is a Captain ranking officer. They have been brought to Combined Military Hospital, Dhaka by chopper,” Director General of BGB Major General Aziz Ahmed said.  Staff Officer of Khagrachhari region Major Moin Ahmed said the six members of BGB were wounded due to an accidental grenade explosion during a combat training at the firing range in the cantonment. Of them, two succumbed to their injuries at Khagrachhari Cantonment Medical Centre. The other injured were immediately taken to Chittagong Combined Military Hospital [CCMH] by army helicopter. Later, they were shifted to CMH in Dhaka when their condition deteriorated, he added. Detailing the scenario of the blast, Commander of BGB battalion-16 Lt Col Khaled Bin Yusuf said, “A live grenade went off in the hand of Sepoy Hasan as he failed to throw it to the dummy target within stipulated time. Abul Kashem was critically wounded as he was standing next to Hasan at that time.”Meanwhile, separate teams of army and BGB have started extensive investigation to know the exact reason behind the deadly grenade blast. “It is not possible to say now for what reason the accident took place. We are trying to find out whether it was an error of the trainee BGB man, or it was a technical fault,” BGB Chittagong Regional Commander Brigadier General Habibul Karim said.
