2 alleged robbers killed in gunfight with police

Two alleged robbers were killed during a ‘gunfight’ with police at Bhutgari in Panchbibi upazila early Tuesday.
The deceased were identified as Salam and Babu.
Officer-in-charge (Investigation) of Panchbibi Police Station Farid Hossain said being tipped off that a gang of robbers were preparing to commit a robbery at Shirtri Bazar in the area, a team of police conducted a drive there at about 3:00 am.
Sensing the presence of police, the hoodlums opened fire on the law enforcers, prompting them to retaliate that triggered a
 gun battle, he said. Two members of the gang were caught in the line of fire and died on the spot.
Two policemen were also injured during the gunfight. Police arrested an injured robber named Boilashi.
They recovered the bodies from the spot on Tuesday morning. The law enforcers also recovered two foreign pistols, one magazine and three rounds of bullet from the scene. Superintendent of police Molla Nazrul Islam confirmed the incident.
