Three children including twin brothers drowned in separate incidents in Hajiganj Upazila recently.
The twin brothers, while playing at around 1 pm on Friday, drowned together in the pond adjacent to the playground of Boroigao Government Primary School in Kadla Union under Kochua Upazila of the district.
The deceased twin brothers were identified as Rafiqul Islam, 6 and Shafiqul Islam,6, both sons of Md Abul Khayer of Boroigao village.
Contacted, local UP member Md Faruque Hossain has told the correspondent that they both were playing together with other playmates at the above playground near their home. At one stage, they both slipped into the pond adjacent to the ground and drowned and went missing for a long time, which later worried their playmates. After frantic search, they were dotted floating in the pond beside the field at around 3 pm. At once they were rescued and rushed to the local Kochua Health Complex where the on duty doctor declared them dead.
A pall of gloom has descended upon the area following this drowning incident.
In another incident, a small boy named Mohammad Yeasin ,18 months, drowned in the pond at Chotontor village under Bakila Union in Hajiganj at around dusk on Thursday last. He was the son of Md Mynuddin Bepari in the village.
While playing at home yard, he , all of a sudden, slipped into the pond beside his dwelling house and drowned. Later he was rescued at 7 pm and rushed to the local Community Clinic where the on duty doctor declared the baby dead. Local UP Chairman Mahfujur Rahman Yusuf Patwary has confirmed the report.
