The government has appointed 189 Labour Inspectors for the Labour Ministry’s Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments.
Those who could not be given posting despite having cleared the 33rd BCS Examination were recruited by the Public Service Commission (PSC) on Thursday as Class-II Labour inspector.
A circular announcing the appointments said 127 had been made Labour Inspector (General), 39 Labour Inspector (Health), and 23 of them Labour Inspector (Safety).
Amendments were made to the rules for successful BCS candidates not recommended for cadres on June 17.
The special rule stated that they could be appointed as Class II officials, besides the usual Class I officers.
As a result, Class II officials have appointed for the first time from among successful BSC candidates.
After Bangladesh lost the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) facility in the United States in June last year because of unsafe factory environment, the country had given an undertaking to recruit 200 factory inspectors.

According to that, the Public Service Commission (PSC) appointed 25 First Class inspectors in October last year.
Meanwhile, the results of six candidates have been temporarily withheld because of technical reasons, according to a notice.
The notice said they would be asked to submit relevant certificates and documents to an investigation committee that will be formed in the next commission.
