17 killed in separate road accidents

At least 17 people were killed in separate road accidents across the country on Friday, according to agency and our correspondents.  
Three people were killed in Sirajganj, three in Moulvibazar, four in Savar, two in Natore, two in Rangpur, one in Barisal, one in Tangail and one in Manikganj.
In Sirajganj, three people were killed and seven others injured when a microbus hit a human hauler at Hatikumrul Golchattar on the Dhaka-Bogra highway in Solonga Upazila on Friday.
The deceased were identified as China, 27, daughter of Naba Bepari, Rajab Ali, 45, son of late Delwar Hossain from Borogoja village in Solonga upazila, and Rehana, 24, wife of Sajirul Islam from Kamarkhand upazila.
Officer-in-Charge of Hatikumrul highway police, BM Emdadul Haque, said that the accident took place in the area around 9am when a microbus rammed a human hauler after the microbus driver lost control over the steering, leaving two passengers of the human hauler dead on the spot and eight others injured.
The injured were rushed to Sirajganj Sadar Hospital where doctors declared Rajab Ali dead.
In Savar, four people, including an army man, were killed and 20 others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck on the Dhaka-Aricha highway at Joypura bus stand in Dhamrai upazila early Friday.
Three of the deceased were identified as Obaidul Haq, 70, hailing from Senbag in Noakhali district, Shamsur Rahman, 40, from
 Ratanpur in Satkhira district and Shahidul Islam, 24, an army personnel of Rangamati East Bengal Regiment, Bandukchhari in Rangamati.
Abdul Jalil, Sub-Inspector of Dhamrai Police Station, said a Satkhira-bound ‘Saudia Paribahan’ bus from Chittagong skidded off the road and fell into a roadside ditch after colliding head-on with a truck coming from the opposite direction around 1:15 am, leaving three people dead on the spot and 21 others injured.
The casualties happened as the bus fell 50 feet deep into the ditch near the highway, said the SI.
The injured were rushed to Dhamrai Upazila Health Complex where on-duty doctors declared a woman dead. The truck driver managed to flee with his vehicle.
In Natore, two persons — one passenger and a truck driver — were killed in two road accidents in Sadar and Boraigram Upazilas of the district on Friday morning.
Police and Fire Service sources said the first accident occurred on Dhaka-Natore highway when a pickup van ploughed into a roadside ditch after the driver of the vehicle lost control over the steering.
Lone passenger of the pickup van Abdul Latif Mridha, 55, an employee of a private bank, died on the spot.
The second accident occurred when a Dhaka bound mango laden truck from Chapainawabganj lost control over the steering hitting a roadside tree killing its driver on the scene at Kalikapur under Boraigram Upazila.
The helper of the truck was rescued from the spot by the Fire Service team and sent to Natore Modern Sadar Hospital.
In Moulvibazar, three people died in a road crash in Sreemangal upazila after a private car veered off the Sreemongal-Sylhet road in Kakhia Bazar area and struck a tree around 1:30am.
