The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has sent a letter to the Immigration Department asking it to take steps so that former judge Faruq Ahmed cannot leave the country as graft allegations surfaced against him.
ACC deputy director Jatan Kumar Roy sent the letter to the office of additional director general of the Immigration Department on Tuesday, ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya told UNB.
Jatan Kumar said, the copies of the letter have also been sent to the authorities of the airports and land
ports so that they can take immediate steps if Faruk Ahmed tries to flee the country.
On Tuesday, the national anti-graft body initiated a move against former judge of Dhaka Special Judge Court Faruq Ahmed in the light of allegations that he acquitted a large number of accused in a number of cases by abusing his power.
The ACC has already appointed a two-member probe team, led by its deputy director Jatan Kumar Roy, to conduct an inquiry against Faruq Ahmed.
According to the allegations received by the ACC, Faruq Ahmed, just before going on retirement recently, acquitted many accused in 15 sensational cases by taking bribe.
Allegations are also there that 11 accused, including seven foreign nationals, got off the hook in three sensational drug smuggling cases from his court in a month by giving him a huge amount of money in bribe.
Faruq Ahmed went on retirement in July 2014.
