167,000 Yaba pills seized in city, Cox’s Bazar: 5 held

Members of law enforcing agencies in separate drives seized about 1,67,000 Yaba pills worth around Tk five crore from the capital’s Jatrabari and an ambulance at a check post in Cox’s Bazar district early Monday.
They also picked up five persons, including a nurse in this connection. A private car was also seized, source said.
Detective Branch (DB) of Police arrested three alleged drug peddlers and recovered one lakh 17
thousand pieces of Yaba tablets at Jatrabari in the city around 5:00am, said DMP Additional Deputy Commissioner SM Jahangir Alam Sarkar.
Sources said, a team of the Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) conducted a drive in the area in the early morning and seized a private car.
Later they recovered Yaba tablets searching the car and arrested them in this connection.
Meanwhile, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized 50,000 pieces of Yaba tablets worth of Tk1.5 crore from an ambulance at Marichya check post of Cox’s Bazar around 6:30am, said Mohammad Mohsin Reza, Public Relation Officer (PRO).
BGB men arrested two people including a nurse, in this connection, he said.
BGB men were searching an ambulance at Marichya check post and found 50,000 pieces Yaba tablets and held a nurse on board and its driver, he said.
The detained persons are Saiful Alam, 32, driver of the car, and Shikha Rani, 40, a nurse. However, he could not say which hospital they worked for.
