16 Indian fishermen land in Bagerhat jail

Sixteen Indian fishermen who were arrested by Bangladesh Cost Guards (BCG) on the charge of illegal intrusion in the water territory of Bangladesh and catching fish from there on Wednesday were sent to Bagerhat jail (hajat) on Thursday as per an order of a court of Bagerhat district.
It is learnt from the police of Mongla PS (in Bagerhat district) that in the early hours of Wednesday when a contingent of the Coastguards of the Western Zone deployed at Mongla were discharging their normal patrol duties in the Bay of Bengal they caught an Indian fishing trawler named FB Maa Mongoliya and arrested its 16 fishermen while they (Indian fishermen) were catching fish from the Fair Buoy of the Bay of Bengal, about 75 nautical miles off Mongla Sea Port after illegally crossing the border of Bangladesh water territory and recovered huge quantity of different spices of sea fish.
All the arrested fishermen hail from the different places of South-24 Porgona of West Bengal of India. The seized fishing trawler and fishing nets, arrested fishermen and the recovered fish were handed over to Mongla PS on Wednesday afternoon by the coastguards. The recovered fish was later sold in auction in presence of the representatives of the fishery department.
Police added, after registering a case with the (Mongla) PS against the arrested Indian fishermen on the charge of illegal intrusion in the water territory of Bangladesh and catching fish from there they (Indian fishermen) were sent to the court at Bagerhat district headquarters on Thursday noon and the judge of the court passed an order to send them to Bagerhat jail (hajat).
