Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard in a drive arrested 454 Rohingyas from some houses at St Martin’s island here on Tuesday night and sent them back to Myanmar.
Tipped off that many some Rohingyas took shelter in different houses in St Martin’s union of the district a team of Coast Guard conducted the drive and rounded up 454 Rohingyas at 11:00pm.
Later, the arrestees were sent back to Myanmar in several boats, said Lieutenant Ashraf Kabir, in charge of St Martin’s island unit of Bangladesh Coast Guard.
But the boats changed their course to Shahparir Dwip and one of the boats capsized near Golar char, said St Martin’s island union Awami League president Mujibur Rahman.
Meanwhile, hundreds of Rohingyas were seen entering the country by 15/20 boats each carrying 25/30 Rohingyas at Shamlapur bazar in Baharchhara Union in Teknaf.
