The 14th award ceremony of Friends Club of Los Angeles was held on Friday evening through a formal ceremony at Dhaka Club in the city.
Dr Dipu Moni, chairperson of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the National Parliament and the former Foreign Minister, was the chief guest in the award giving ceremony and she later handed over the awards.
Each year the Friend Club of Los Angles, acknowledged the sports and cultural personalities for their lifetime achievement, arranged the award ceremony in Log Angeles, USA, but this year is the first time the club arranged the programme in Dhaka and awarded fourteen renowned sports and cultural personalities for their outstanding contribution of their respective fields.
The fourteen awardees are Bangladesh Olympic Association general secretary and renowned sports organizer Syed Shahed Reza, renowned sports organizer Harun Ur-Rashid, veteran journalist Muhammad Kamruzzaman, former national cricketer Minhajul Abedin Nannu, former football Shahiduddin Ahmed Selim, versatile singer-composer Lucky Akhand, former national footballer Hasanuzzaman Khan Bablu, sports organizer Kazi Mohammad Usha Mishu, photo journalist Khandaker Tareq, cricket coach Sarowar Imran, shuttler Zakariul Islam Swapan, gymnast M Ahmadeur Rahman, footballer Asish Vadra and table tennis queen and listed Guinness book record holder Zobera Rahman Linu.
