12 injured in AL-BNP clash in Bogura

At least 12 people were injured and 13 others were arrested during a sporadic clash between ruling Awami League (AL) and BNP over election campaign in Sonatola upazila following the upcoming national polls. Witnesses said 10 motor-cycles, six shops were vandalised, another four motorcycles were torched and local AL office was vandalised during the clash that lasted three hours. Police fired rubber bullets and tear shells to control the situation. An agitation has been prevailing for past few days between AL candidate Abdul Mannan and BNP candidate

In the morning the two groups declared to conduct their election campaign in the same upazila and locked into clash with sticks and stones. The two supporters’ groups chased each other (dhawa-palta dhawa) and hurled cocktails at each other for hours before AL men fled from the spot at one stage. Later, BNP men vandalised several motor vehicles, shops and AL office at Charpara area. Additional Police Superintendent of Bogura Arifur Rahman Mandal said additional force has been deployed in the area to fend off any further unwanted situation.
