11 militants charged over Ashulia bank robbery

The District and Sessions Judge’s Court of Dhaka on Thursday afternoon framed charges against 11 people in Ashulia bank robbery case that claimed the deaths of nine persons.Dhaka District and Session Judge SM Quddus Zaman passed the order, rejecting the discharge petitions filed by the defence lawyers.
During the hearing, the accused pleaded not guilty and sought justice from the court. Later, the court fixed February 1 for recording the depositions of the witnesses in the case.
On April 21 last year, armed miscreants raided a branch of Commerce Bank at Kathgora in the Ashulia industrial area, killing nine people. More than 20 people sustained bullet and splinter injuries in the incident. While escaping, the robbers fired and burst bombs.
One of the robbers was lynched and two others were handed over to the police by the local people. Jasim is believed to be one of the members of the gang who managed to flee spot. The miscreants left behind more than Taka six lakh looted from the bank.
