With the motto ‘Choose to challenge’, Zonta Club of Greater Dhaka awarded four women on Saturday celebrating the occasion of Zonta Rose Day & International Women’s Day, through a ceremony in the capital’s Basundhara residential area.
Director Communications and Business Development of United Hospital Ltd Dr. Shagufa Anwar, Founder of Sunshine Learning Center and NSU faculty Ms. Saira Nazneen Ahsan, Stuff nurse of Evercare Hospital Sister Farzana Akter and Technologist of Praava Health Ms. Sajeda Akter Mita have been awarded for their contribution to society during the COVID-19 pandemic.
According Zonta, these heroes have been working behind the scenes through the critical stages of the pandemic. Awarding was a little token of the club’s appreciation.
Dr. Simmen M. Akhtar, President of Zonta Club of Greater Dhaka, said during the Covid-19 pandemic there are many people in the healthcare sector working behind the scene. “Being involved in this sector I saw that these people remain unknown. They’re the heroes who are not being seen. So we reached out to different institutions to identify people that they felt were creating a difference in different ways during the pandemic”.
Former President of Zonta Club of Greater Dhaka Sonya Panni said, “In recognition of the women and the girls who have brought change in people’s lives, we have arranged this ceremony. The women we have awarded have done exemplary works during the COVID-19 pandemic. Though the Rose Day is on 8 March and coincides with International women’s day, we are celebrating it on 13 March this year. We celebrate this day every year.” Guests, committee members and general members of the Zonta Club of Greater Dhaka were present in this limited scale award ceremony and celebration event.
