Grandmaster Ziaur Rahman defeated Al Mutairi Hassan of Saudi Arabia in the first round of Open section matches of the Asian Continental Chess Championships in Sharjah, UAE on Thursday.
In the 1st round matches of the Women section of the meet, Women Fide Master Nazrana Khan Eva conceded defeat against Women Grandmaster Swaminathan Soumya of India.
In all, 64 players including 32 Grandmasters and 11 International Masters from 21 countries are taking part in the Open section while 32 players including 9 Women Grandmasters, 4 International Masters and 10 International Women Masters from 16 countries are participating in the Women section of the meet.
Top five players from Open section of the meet will qualify for the World Cup Chess 2015 while the champion of the Women section for the World Women Chess.
