Zero tolerance to militant acts, drugs: New IGP

Newly-appointed Inspector General of Police Dr Jabed Patwary on Thursday warned that they will show zero tolerance to militant activities and drug abuse.
“The law enforcement agencies will go ahead in a planned way to keep the law-and-order situation under control, aiming to implement the government’s Vision 2021 and Vision 2041,” the IGP said while talking to reporters at the Police Headquarters.
“The spread of militancy and drugs are the two big problems in the days to come. We’ll strengthen drive against militancy and control of drug is a challenge for us alongside militancy,” he said.
The new IGP further said, “We’ll work maintaining coordination with other law enforcement agencies to protect our people, especially the youth, from the drug addiction.”
Terming journalists as co-warriors of the police, he thanked both the print and electronic media for raising awareness against militancy across the country. About the involvement of police in crimes, Jabed Patwary said now the number of police is around two lakh and most of them have the mentality to work for people but a handful of themis involved in crimes. The department won’t take responsibility of anyone’s personal liability. The IGP said professionalism like increasing monitoring, accountability, using information and technology will be prioritised along with developing the standard of overall policing system.
To ensure professionalism and standard of policing system, the law enforcers, mass media and the country’s people will have to work together, he said. The IGP saidthe police will remain active in fulfilling the expectations of people through their activities. About the upcoming parliamentary polls, the IGP said:”It’s the responsibility ofthe Election Commission to conduct the election. Our responsibility is to provide security for protecting public life and property. Police will perform its duty maintaining professionalism.”
