Prime Minister’s International Affairs Adviser Dr Gowher Rizvi on Sunday said the government will show zero
tolerance for sexual offences as occurred during the Pahela Baishakh celebrations on the Dhaka University campus.
“The government won’t spare sex offenders because such incidents (sexual assaults on women) are unacceptable,” he told the BBC dialogue held at TSC auditorium of Dhaka University.
It will take a little bit of time to book the offenders, Gowher Rizvi said adding, “If we don’t raise our voice against such offences that will frequently occur in the country.”
Criticising the role of police during the incident, he said if the law enforcers really failed to perform their duty at that time, they will be brought to justice.
Executive director of Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association (Bela) Rizwana Hasan said all should raise their voice against the offenders involved in sexual assaults on women during Pahela Baishakh celebrations.
BNP chairperson’s adviser Inam Ahmed Chowdhury and executive director of Bangladesh Alliances for Women Leadership Nasim Ferdous also took part in the dialogue as panelists.
