Zero daily Covid death reported in four months

Bangladesh on Tuesday saw no death from Covid-19 after 96 days as the country recorded zero coronavirus death for the first time since late November last year. The pandemic began on March 8, 2020.
Meanwhile, 217 people tested positive for the virus during the last 24 hours and the positivity rate was recorded 1.54%.
“Zero Covid-19 death was posted for the first time in November 20,after the deadly virus Covid-19 was detected in the country,” Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) sources said. According to DGHS, “The country reported 1.54 percent Covid-19 positive cases as 14,049 samples were tested in the past 24 hours.”
Besides, the combined figure of coronavirus in Dhaka city and upazilas of the district is 160 while no Covid-19 death was reported during the period.
The official tally showed that the virus killed 29,112 people and infected 19,49,942 so far, according to the DGHS on Tuesday.
The recovery count rose to 18,64,408 after another 1,600 patients were discharged from the dedicated hospitals during the past one day.
From the beginning of the pandemic, 95.61 percent Covid-19 patients recovered among the infected people while 1.49 percent died, the DGHS statistics showed.
As of March 14 data, among the total 29,112 fatalities, 12,791 occurred in Dhaka division, 5,861 in Chattogram, 2,141 in Rajshahi, 3,716 in Khulna, 982 in Barishal, 1,326 in Sylhet, 1,416 in Rangpur and 879 in Mymensingh divisions.
Bangladesh reported its first Covid case on 8 March 2020 and the maiden death on 18 March the same year.
