Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury, Founder and Trustee Board Member of the Gonoshasthaya Kendra, who is infected by Covid-19 was experiencing respiratory problems on Thursday night. Now he is in a stable condition and being treated at Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital.
Gonoshasthaya Kendra’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Monjur Kader Ahmed said it to journalists on Friday. On behalf of Zafrullah Chowdhury, he requested the countrymen to keep him in their prayers.
Monjur said that Dr. Zafrullah was experiencing respiratory problems since he was taking regular dialysis at the hospital on Thursday night.
Officials of the hospital said that Dr. Mamun Mustafi and Dr. Nazib were watching closely Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury since he was admitted there on May 25 after tested Covid-19 positive.
Dr Zafrullah made significant contribution to the health sector of Bangladesh since the Liberation War in 1971. He was behind the country’s drug policy that helped boost the country’s pharmaceutical industry.
The freedom fighter and physician has come to limelight recently after a team of Gonoshasthaya Kendra developed rapid test kit for Covid-19.
The kit was developed in mid-March, it is yet to get a government permission for mass production.
The kit is now under performance trial at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).
Dr Zafrullah requested the government to go for emergency approval of the rapid test kit – GR-Rapid Dot Blot – that is low cost and can give result in 10 minutes.
