Yunus tops list of 10 inspiring Bangladeshis

Justnewsbd :Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus was listed among the 10 inspirational Bangladeshis. London-based organisation British Bangladeshi Power and Inspiration has published a list of 10 inspirational Bangladeshis around the world at the British Parliament Commonwealth Room on Tuesday.Nobel Laureate and Grameen Bank founder Dr Muhammad Yunus topped the list. Among others the list also includes YouTube’s founder Jawed Karim, Brac’s founder Sir Fazle Hassan Abed, Founder of Khan Academy Salman Khan, Jaago Foundation’s Korvi Rakshand, lawyer Sara Hossain, cricketer Shakib al Hassan, CEO of Medtronic Omar Ishrak, Sumaiya Kazi and Everest climber Nishat Mazumder.The top 100 names were announced by prominent figures such as Baroness Syeda Warsi, Rt. Hon Danny Alexander MP, Anne Main MP, Dame Tessa Jowell MP, Lord Karan Bilimoria, Mijarul Quayes Bangladesh High Commissioner to the UK and a number of other MPs and dignitaries were in attendance.The hotly anticipated British Bangladeshi Power & Inspiration 2014 list has been announced Tuesday night in a packed Commonwealth Room at the Houses of Parliament.The 2014 list showcases British Bangladeshi talent across 20 different categories including, politics, business and enterprise, innovation, media, sport, culture, celebrities, restaurateurs and emerging influence.For first time the general public have participated in the selection process by nominating their most inspiring figures in British Bangladeshi society. The Judges have awarded the highly prestigious People’s Choice places to following five names who demonstrate extraordinary examples of success and inspiration: Hammed Ahmed (Entrepreneur of Northampton), Sofina Aktar Motin Islam OBE (Headteacher of Coventry), Jelina Berlow- Rahman (Partner of JR Rahman Solicitors of Edinburgh), Kawsar Zaman (Fulbright Scholar of London), Shabina Begum (Barrister and Acid Victim Campaigner of London).Prominent names in 2014 BB Power & Inspiration are, amongst others, Iqbal Ahmed OBE (Chairman of the Seamark Group), Sapnara Khatun (Barrister and Judge), Lutfur Rahman (first directly elected British Bangladeshi Executive Mayor), Asif Anwar Ahmed (Ambassador to Thailand), Prof Moorad Choudhury (Treasurer RBS) and Mihir Bose (Sports Journalist).The list also revealed less well known and emerging faces such as Rupa Huq (Labour Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Ealing) and Zubair Hoque Formula 4 Racing Driver.
