UNB, Dhaka :
Nobel Laureate Prof Muhammad Yunus has proposed the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to include ‘social business issue’ in the selection process of the Olympic Games host city to know what initiatives the city has taken to create social business to address its social problems.
Yunus came up with the proposal when he met IOC president Thomas Bach at IOC headquarters in Lausanne of Switzerland recently, said a Yunus Centre press release on Tuesday.
Upon invitation from the IOC, he visited the IOC headquarters to explain the concept of social business to the IOC president and his colleagues. During his visit, Prof Yunus elaborated
his proposal to give social orientation to the Olympic Games beyond the games themselves.
President Bach and his wife also invited Prof Yunus to a private dinner and called upon him to elaborate his ideas of future programmes of IOC, including host city selection procedure, redesign of Youth Olympics, and having a mini version of the Olympic Museum in each country so that the history and spirit of the Olympics can reach more people, particularly the youth.
Under the instructions of President Bach, a team was formed to initiate the implementation of the ideas presented by Prof Yunus.
