Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique has urged the young generation to follow linguist Dr. Muhammad Shahidullah’s spirits and ideals to build a non-communal country.
“A non-communal personality like Dr. Muhammad Shahidullah is rare in society. He was a pious Muslim on the one hand and respectful to other religions on the other,” a DU press release quoted Professor Siddique as saying as chief guest at a memorial discussion on the country’s most revered linguist and educationist on the campus on Friday.
Dr. Muhammad Shahidullah Hall Alumni Association of DU organized the discussion on the hall premises marking Shahidullah’s 132nd birth and 48th death anniversary.
Presided over by the Hall Alumni Association Convener Md Yunus, the function was also addressed by Housing and Public Works Ministry Secretary Md Shahid Ullah Khandaker, Hall Provost Professor Md. Professor Siddique recalled Dr. Muhammad Shahidullah’s contributions to the Language Movement and the War of Liberation, the release said.
