‘Youths should be built as worthy citizens’

The youths, particularly the students in higher seats of learning, should be built as worthy citizens so that they can contribute positively to the society and the nation, speakers said at a youth training session in Rajshahi.
They termed the young generation as a vital power for the nation and viewed they must be built as active citizens through enhancing their level of confidence. Time has come to generate leadership characteristics among the youths.
They were addressing the inaugural session of a four-day ‘Active Citizens Youth Leadership Training (ACYLT)’ at the Postal Academy in the city.
“Globally Connected, Locally Engaged” was the main theme of the programme.
The Hunger Project-Bangladesh (THPB) and British Council jointly organised the training with the goal of creating a new generation of young leaders. A total of 32 students including 15 girl students from different educational institutions in the metropolis are taking part in the course.
Disseminating their expertise on various youth development issues the discussants mentioned that each of the youths should have commitment of building a poverty-free and self-reliant Bangladesh.
Area Coordinator of THPB Subrata Kumar Paul, Active Citizen Facilitators Kawsar Billah, Jannat Sharmin and Ali Akbar Rubel spoke on the occasion.
Subrata Paul told the session that ACYLT is a British Council programme that brings together networks of youths in Bangladesh and encourages them to play a bigger role in their local communities.
Through a series of exciting and interactive sessions, the participants will share their ideas and experiences and contribute to intercultural dialogue.
The training included several individual and group presentations on social issues through which participants demonstrated their creativity and communication skills.
