A young man was stabbed to death and two others were injured in an attack by some miscreants over a trifling matter at Khalder Road in the district town on the night of holy Shab-e-Barat (early Wednesday).
The deceased was identified as Khaiber Rahman, 18, son of Golam Rabbani, a resident of the area.
Shikdar Akkas Ali, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, said an altercation ensued among some young men, including Khaiber, over sitting at Karbala Mosque during prayers on the night of holy Shab-e-Barat around 1 am.
After prayers when Khaiber went to the graveyard near the mosque, ¾ young men swooped on him and a scuffle took place among them over the issue.
At one stage, they stabbed Khaiber indiscriminately, leaving him critically injured.
He was rushed to Jessore Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
