A youth who was severely stabbed again for protesting stalking of his sister in the city’s Shyampur, succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Sunday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Sheikh Imam Pavel, 22, said Mizanur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge(OC) of Shyampur Police Station.
A group of youths used to harass and stalk Pavel’s sister. Members of the group stabbed Pavel when he protested and confronted them in Shyampur’s Jurain area on Saturday night, the OC said.
Tuhin and Shaheen, two of the alleged stalkers stabbed Pavel, uncle of the deceased told it to the reporters at DMCH.
Local sources said, a stalker named Tuhin used to harass Pavel’s younger sister, a resident of Mazar Gate area of Jurain. As Tuhin harassed the girl on Saturday, Pavel slapped him in the evening in Jurain area.
Later, Tuhin along with his five to six accomplishes stabbed Pavel in Banshpotty area at about 10pm, leaving him critically injured. Pavel he breathed his last at the hospital around 9:00am on Sunday, said DMCH Police Outpost in-charge SI Bachchu Mia.
Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) produced a statistics report to the journalists recently that at least 35 eve teasers were reportedly killed by stalkers to protest harass relatives, including sisters, daughters and and sassing claimed to strongly condemns this incident.
Sultan Ahmed Mintu, 35, who was beaten by a stalker for reportedly protesting the harassment of his cousin in Sonargaon upazila of Narayanganj district on January 15 in 2018.
Nasir, 25, a fish trader, who was beaten by some stalkers for protesting eve-teasing in the city’s Bhashantek area, died on October 11 in 2014.
On October 4 last year, Moazzem Sheikh, 43, a rickshaw-puller, was stabbed to death when he tried to prevent an alleged stalker from kidnapping his daughter from home in Bera upazila of Pabna district and Md. Jinnat Ali, a freedom fighter, was stabbed to death by the stalkers for protesting eve teasing of his daughter in Barishal on November 27 in 2011.
