Reckless driving is taking lives frequently in the capital city. As a result, the city’s streets have become unsafe for pedestrians.
Not only reckless driving, there is also allegation of killing passengers by transport workers in a cool head.
On Thursday, two people including a baby hawker were killed in separate road incidents in the capital.
In Wari, a passenger named Irfan, 45, died after pushed from a Green Bangla Paribahan over fare-related disputes. The incident took place in the capital’s Wari around 11am on Thursday (January 20).
Abdul Qader, a colleague of the victim said that Irafn embarked on the bus around 11:00 of the day on way to his workplace Nawabpur from Demra.
On his way, he had quarrel with the bus conductor Mozammel over fare and the helper assaulted him and later pushed him out of the running bus at Tikatuli, leaving the victim serously injured.
At first, the injured was rushed to Salauddin Hospital in a critical condition. And then to Dhaka Medical College & Hospital (DMCH) for better treatment where the duty physician declared him dead.
Dhaka Medical police camp in-charge (Inspector) Bachchu Mia said the body was taken to the morgue for autopsy.
Irfan’s brother Enam Ahmed said, “My brother works in an electric shop in Nawabpur.” After leaving home in the morning, he got on the bus and on his way to work place; the conductor threw him from the bus in front of the Joykali temple in Tikatuli and killed him. I want justice.
Meanwhile, a teen boy was killed after being crushed between two buses in Dhaka’s Moghbazar area on Thursday afternoon.
The victim was identified as Rakib, 14, who used to sell facemasks on the buses and streets.
According to locals, the boy was sandwiched between two buses as the drivers of three buses of Gazipur-bound Ajmeri Paribahan were recklessly driving to compete with each other around 5:00 pm.
With critical injuries, the boy was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital by pedestrian Harun where duty doctors declared him dead around 5:30 pm.
Police seized the buses but the drivers fled the scene, Abul khayer, Sub-Inspector of Ramna Police Station, confirmed the matter to the New Nation.
Police will look into the CCTV camera footage to know what actually happened, he said.
Though government banned seating services in the capital, allegations of seating and gate-locking service still exist in city.
