A girl was allegedly picked up inside a private car by an youth to rape her in the city’s College Gate area on Monday morning.
The witnesses rushed to the spot, hearing the screaming of the victim
and rescued her from the car around 3:00am.
They caught 24-year old Mahmudul Haq alias Rony while he was trying to rape the girl and gave him a good beating before handing him over to the police, said GC Biswas, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station.
But the driver ran away from the spot, which was seen in a video that went viral on the social media, the police official said. We are interrogating Rony in this regard, the OC said.
Rony might have taken drug during the incident according to him. Action will be taken against Rony if we find his involvement about the forcibly picking up the girl inside the car, he added. We are trying to find out the 22-yeard old victimized girl, he said.
