Government officials at a discussion here have called for turning youths into productive workforces through ensuring science and technology-based modern education and training to build a developed Bangladesh.
They came up with the observation at the post-rally discussion jointly organised by the district administration and Department of Youth Development (DYD) in observance of the National Youth Day-2017 at Town Hall here on Wednesday afternoon. Elaborate day-long programmes, including colourful rally, distribution of certificates and loans among trained youths, were arranged to mark the day.
Led by Divisional Commissioner Kazi Hasan Ahmed, government officials, teachers, students, employees and common citizens brought out the rally on the main streets.
Later, the Divisional Commissioner addressed the discussion as the chief guest with Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Ruhul Amin Miah in the chair. Deputy Director of DYD Dilgir Alam, Acting President of district Awami League Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed and its city unit General Secretary Tushar Kanti Mandal, Additional Police Super Saifur Rahman addressed as special guests.
Dilgir Alam discussed about massive steps taken by the government to turn youths into skilled workforces to make them self-reliant through own initiatives, entrepreneurships and income-generation activities.
Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed recalled glorious contribution of youths in the language movement, 1969 mass upsurge, War of Liberation and all democratic movements and said youths would build the ‘Sonar Bangla’ as dreamt by Bangabandhu.

This view was expressed in the closing session of a three-day youth leadership training by a host of speakers who urged all concerned to flourish leadership characteristics of youths.
Importance should be given on generating community leadership from among the youths to bring a qualitative change everywhere in the society. There is no alternative to training to enhance professional skills among the youths, the speakers said.
The Hunger Project Bangladesh organiSed the training at BMDA Training Center in Mohanpur Upazila Parishad complex in the district on Wednesday afternoon. British Council funded the project titled “Promoting Democratic Inclusion and Governance through Youths (PRODIGY)” supported the training. A total 36 youths including 20 female joined the course.
Joining the function Upazila Chairman Prof Abdus Samad put emphasis on equipping the youths with modern knowledge for making them worthy citizens. Time has come to generate more youth leadership in the society.
BSS from Gaibandha adds: Three trained youths, including a woman, got loan facilities of TK 1.90 lakh with nominal interest from Department of Youth Development (DYD) on Wednesday to run their project smoothly.
Apart from it, three voluntary organizations of the district also received financial grant of TK 60,000 from the DYD, the DYD source said.
The loan and the grant were distributed to the beneficiary youths and the organizations at a function held at the auditorium of Zila Shilpakala Academy here on Wednesday marking the National Youth Day-2017.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Gautam Chandra Pal addressed the function as the chief guest while additional police super Abdullah Al Faruk and Sadar UNO Alia Ferdous Zahan were present at the event as the special guests.
