A rally organised by Sammilita Samajik Andolon (SSA), a civil rights body was held in the city’s Shahbagh area on Thursday to protest the attack and repression on the people of the Hindu community in Brahmanbaria. The leaders of the organisation demanded a judicial probe into the incident. In the programme the speakers said those who want to incite unrest in the country by creating religious tension had carried out such attack. They urged the government to nab the culprits immediately involved in this heinous crime and give them exemplary punishment to avoid recurrence of such incident. The speakers also urged the government to take necessary measures for ensuring security of the religious minorities. The function was addressed, among others, by Oikya NAP President and SSA Presidium Member Pankaj Bhattachariya, its Presidium Member Dr Azizur Rahman, SSA Vice-President Ranjit Kumar Saha, Professor of Dhaka University Rubayat Ferdous and Mahila Oikya Parishad President Jayanti Roy. Acting President of the organisation Tareque Ali presided over the event.

The certificate awarding ceremony of a two training courses on ‘TV Journalism’ and ‘TV News Presentation’ conducted by Bangladesh Institute of Journalism and Electronic Media (BIJEM) held recently at the institute. Helena Jahangir, Founder and Chairman, Joyjatra Foundation was present as chief guest and distributed certificates among the participants. Chief guest said, TV Journalists and News presenters should have vast knowledge on news, current affairs and presentation techniques. Proper and modern training can improve their skill. Shamim Ara Munni, Senior News Presenter, ATN Bangla, Nazratan Nayeem Ahmed, Deputy Managing Director of RP Constrution (Pvt.) Ltd. were present as special guests and Barrister Parvez Ahmed was present as guest of honour. BIJEM Executive Director Mirza Tarequl Qader presided over the function. The courses were conducted by renowned TV news presenters, TV journalist and phoneticians. A total of 48 participants including 24 female students of different public and private universities and colleges, took part in the courses.
