Youth leadership for cherished national uplift stressed

Speakers at a youths’ gathering in Rajshahi on Wednesday underscored the need for transforming the youths- both boys and girls- into competent human resources through need-based training for the sake of enhancing their level of confidence besides moral courage.
They said there is no alternative to enhancing their level of confidence for ensuring equitable, inclusive and sustainable development in an effort to playing effective role as social watchdog.
Local Government Institutions should take the responsibilities of extending all requisite supports towards the youths so that they are encouraged towards the nation building process.
The observations came at a daylong ‘active citizens regional achievers summit’ at Green Plaza of City Bhaban in Rajshahi yesterday. Some 11 civil society organizations including Center for Communication and Development (CCD) and the Hunger Project Bangladesh organized the event with the main thrust of generating inspiration among the youths towards nation building activities.
Former Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, sitting acting mayor Nizam-Ul Azim, former Vice-chancellor of Rajshahi University Prof Saidur Rahman Khan, Principal of Rajshahi College Prof Habibur Rahman, Additional Commissioner of RMP Sarder Tamij Uddin, Commander of BNCC Mohansthan Regiment Col Imam Ahsan and CCD Director Golam Mourtoza spoke on the occasion.
The speakers stressed the need for flourishing leadership among youths through equipping them with modern knowledge and that is very important to bring a qualitative change everywhere in the society. Time has come to generate more and more youths and community leaders in the grassroots for making them time-fitting social actor to free the society from various crimes and malpractices like drug-addiction.
Enriching community leadership along with their capacity building is the precondition to generate job opportunities, social development and free the society from gender discriminations and vicious cycle of poverty, they further said. In his remarks, AHM Khairuzzaman Liton underscored the need for expanding the computer and other vocational training infrastructures to the upazila level as there is no alternative to disseminate computer literacy and knowledge to the grassroots youths in the era of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
Besides, there should be optimum measures of creating marketing facilities of the products which are being manufactured by various youth organizations and other self-reliant youths. Women participation in all the youth development process has become a crucial need for substantial and sustainable reduction of gender disparity.
There should be measures of engaging the youths towards democratic activities through their active and effective participation for strengthening social development and more community participation. Prof Saidur Rahman Khan said there is no alternative to training to enhance professional skills among the youths. Time has come to generate more and more youth leadership in the society for making them time-fitting social actor to free the society from various crimes and malpractices like drug-addiction.
