A young man went missing while swimming in the Piyain River at Jaflong in Goainghat upazila on Wednesday.
The victim was identified as Kamrul Islam, 20, son of Khorshed Ali, a resident of Shahi Eidgah area in the city.
Goainghat Police Station officer-in-charge Abdul Hye said Kamrul along with his friends went to the river for swimming around 4 pm.
At one stage, Kamrul was carried away by the strong current of the river.
Being informed, divers rushed to the spot and started a rescue operation, said the OC.
