Youth gets 7 yrs for writing satirical song on PM, Bangabandhu

A tribunal here on Wednesday sentenced a young man to seven year’s imprisonment for composing a song mocking Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The convict is Tanmoy Mallick, son of Tulshi Mallick of Gorkathi village in Dakope upazila of Khulna district.
The court also fined him Tk 10,000, in default, to suffer six months more in rigorous imprisonment.
According to the case
statement, Tanmoy, owner of a Flexiload shop in Dakope, wrote a satirical song insulting the Prime Minister and Bangabandhu and then circulated it through the memory cards of mobile phones on October 26, 2013.
Rafiqul Islam Rafique, a resident of the upazila, bought the satirical song for Tk 10 and then played it through a sound amplifier at the local market.
Joynal Abedin, sub-inspector of Dakope Police Station, filed a case against Tanmoy and Rafique under the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act. The district court sent the case to the Cyber Tribunal of Dhaka. Police submitted charge-sheet against them on May 19 this year. After examining the records and 10 witnesses, Cyber Tribunal Judge AKM Shamsul Islam handed down the verdict acquitting Rafique as allegation brought against him was not proved.
