Staff Reporter :
About 28-year old Shakil Khan, an alleged drug dealer, who was picked up by a team of plainclothes men identifying themselves as the personnel of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), died at Bauphal Upazila Health Complex of Patuakhali district on Friday.
The family members and locals claimed Shakil was tortured to death or feeding excessive drugs by the RAB personnel in eight hours of his detention.
But the elite force men claimed that Shakil died from over swallowing excessive Yaba pills under his possession.
Shah Alam Khan, father of Shakil, inhabitant of East Alipur village in
Dashmina upazila, said, “A detective team of RAB-8 picked up his son from the playground of Ramnath Sen Government Primary School in Dashmina upazila around 4:00pm on Thursday. His son was not involved with drug dealing, but RAB enlisted his Shakil’s name in three drug cases apart from an ill motive. Locals tried to save Shakil, but failed as law enforcers showed RAB identity cards.”
He claimed that his son might be culprit, but why did RAB admit Shakil to hospital around 11:15pm?
RAB-8 personnel brought Shakil to the hospital around 11:15pm, said Dr Akhtaruzzamna, on-duty doctor of the hospital.
Shakil died from adverse impact of excessive drugs, the doctor said.
Baufal Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khandakar Mostafizur Rahman said that an Unnatural Death (UD) case was filed in this regard. The body was sent to Pauakhali General Hospital morgue for an autopsy, the OC said.
