Staff Reporter :A blogger was stabbed to death by assailants in broad daylight at Begunbari in the city on Monday morning.The victim was identified as Washiqur Rahman 27, son of Tipu Sultan, resident of South Begunbari area and was hailing from Ramganj upazial of Lakkhipur district. This is the second bloger murder just after a month of the killing of blogger and writer Avijit Roy on the Dhaka University campus on February 26.Police caught two persons red-handed with bloodstained machetes in this connection. They were identified as Jikrul, 20, a student of Hathajari Madrasa in Chittagong, and Ariful Islam, 20, a student of Darul Ulum Madrasa, Dhaka.Quoting the arrested persons and victim’s relatives, Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s (DMP) Deputy Commissioner (Tejgaon Zone) Biplob Kumar Sarkar said in a press briefing at Tejgaon Police Station that the assailants hacked Washiqur with machetes near Dipika Mosque Lane in Begunbari area around 9:15am when he was on the way to office in Motijheel, leaving him critically injured. Locals rushed Washiqur to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) where the on duty doctors declared him dead around 10:30am.”Washiqur used to work with a travel agency named Far East Aviation at Motijheel. We came to know his identity from his National Identity (ID) card which we recovered from his pocket,” the police official said.The arrested Jikrul and Ariful confessed their involvement in the murder during the primary interrogation under police, the AC said.”They also admitted that another attacker named Taher managed to escape the scene. The three alleged assailants also went to South Begunbari area on Sunday evening to make a study of how to execute their plan,” said Biplop Kumar Sarkar. They planned to murder him for publishing write-ups hurting religious sentiments,” he said.The ‘Ansarullah Bangla Team’ might have their connection with the murder of Washiqur, a DB official said. The law enforcers are investigating and scrutinizing their statements about the killing, he said. Tejgaon Industrial Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Salauddin said that victim’s face had been distorted because the miscreants hacked him mainly on the face. Washiqur was not killed for business dispute, the police officer said. DMCH Police Outpost In-Charge and Sub-Inspector (SI) Mozammel Haque said the body was kept at the hospital morgue.The attack came just after a month of he killing of blogger Avijit Roy in city’s Shahbagh area on February 26 while another blogger Razib Haider also was killed in capital’s Mirpur area by miscreants on February 15, 2013, police sources said.
