Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Saturday arrested six persons from a picnic bus in Chattogram on charge of carrying 2.4 lakh Yaba tablets.
RAB detained their bus in Chattogram city’s Shah Amanat Bridge area on Saturday, said Major Mehedi Hasan, Commander of Chandgaon Camp of RAB-7 in the Port City.
The accused were identified as Atiar Rahman, 55, Masud Rana, 31, Md Bablu, 47, Md Iqbal Hossain, 37, Md Jewel, 39, and Aminur Rahman Sabuj, 23.
The six men hailed from Jashore and arranged a picnic in Cox’s Bazar with their family members.
They went to Cox’s Bazar on Wednesday with around 35 of their family members in a bus owned by Atiar, Mehedi Hasan said.
They concealed those inside the bus under the goods and attires of the passengers, Mehedi Hasan added.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of RAB-7 intercepted the picnic bus in Karnaphuli Shah Amanat Bridge area around 6.30am when it was returning to Jashore.
RAB recovered the tablets after searching the vehicle.
During primary interrogation, the arrested persons claimed that the other passengers on the bus were not involvement in the illegal consignment.
“The Yaba tablets were supposed to be taken to Dhaka and Jashore for trading,” the Major said.
RAB also seized the bus and handed them over to Chattogram’s Bakalia Police Station.
