Yaba smuggled via air way from Cox’s Bazar

The Yaba smugglers have been smuggling the narcotics into Bangladesh by air to make quick disposal thereof.
The Yaba tablets reach Dhaka, Chittagong, Sylhet and Jessore by air for easy transportation.
In recent time, six Bangladeshis were arrested along with more than 20,000 pieces of Yaba tablets at Cox’s Bazar Airport when Yaba were being sent to Dhaka.
On being informed, the security personnel of the airport arrested them with Yaba tablets.
An official of the Cox’s Bazar Airport said, several times, the Yaba pedlars have been arrested at airport in Cox’s Bazar.
He said thousands of Yaba tablets are being smuggled into Bangladesh from Burma through the different entry points of Burma-Bangladesh border and by Air.
There is a strong syndicate working on both sides of the border. Sources said, the smugglers have been using transit point for international drug pedling due to its geographic and strategic location.
“Bangladesh has become the transit country for illegal drugs,” a senior official of the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) told The New Nation on Saturday.
He said, young people, mostly college and university students are gradually becoming drug addicts in the capital and its outskirts, creating a grave concern among the guardians.
According to the detective sources, Yaba traders as well as smugglers having link with these political leaders and law enforcers continue the harmful business for long.
Yaba tablets are carried by smugglers on their bodies. Tablets being very small, these are very easy to carry.
After arrival in airport, smugglers supply the Yaba tablets to the local markets where their partners stay.
Cox’s Bazar Police Superintendent Shyamal Kumar Nath said, many smugglers have recently been arrested with Yaba tablets at Airport and sent to jail by the law enforcers.
He said “We are now more active in arresting Yaba smugglers. We want to wipe out all kinds of drug items.”
