A number of drug syndicates of country get hauls of Yaba pills from Myanmar as per deals.
The Rakhine smuggling gangs hand over Yaba tablets to Bangladeshi drug peddlers according to earlier payment.
At least 50 syndicates of both countries carry out the hauls from Rakhine State to Barguna, Patuakhali and Cox’s Bazar costal areas, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Spokesman Commander Mufti Mahmud Khan told the reporters on Tuesday.
He claimed that they seized eight lakh of Yaba
tables worth around Tk 50 crore from the possession of three drug peddlers—Tuhin, Sabuj, and Shahjahan, who confessed to the RAB that they got Yaba tablets as per pre payment.
They provisionally paid for a haul of seven lakh Yaba tablets, the RAB official said.
The Yaba gangs tried to dodge the law enforcing agencies amid the ongoing zero tolerance against the Yaba and other drugs, he added.
A team of RAB-1 sized the hauls of Yaba pills at the city’s Sadargahat around 6:00am on Tuesday, said RAB-1 Assistant Police Superintendent Md Kamruzzaman.
In initial interrogation, the detainees revealed that they were coming to Dhaka on a launch from Barguna.
They were carrying around 800,000 methamphetamine-based Yaba tablets which are worth to Tk 500 million, said SI Kamruzzaman. A case was filed with the police station in this connection, he said.
